# A passport for each EV and LMT battery, and each industrial battery above 2 kWh.

> Light means of transport (LMT) and EV batteries, and industrial batteries above 2 kWh, need a passport. Describe the model once, and add performance and state of health per unit, on a profile built from Regulation (EU) 2023/1542.

## What the rule asks of a battery (Article 77).

From 18 February 2027, each light means of transport (LMT) battery, each EV battery and each industrial battery above 2 kWh needs an electronic record, reachable through a QR code on the battery, or on its packaging and documents where marking the battery isn't possible.

### Per battery

Identity at model level, with performance and state of health for the individual unit.

### Per audience

Public data for everyone. Dismantling and state-of-health data for those with a legitimate interest.

### For the whole life

A battery's status is dated as it is reused, repurposed or remanufactured. The law then requires a new passport, linked to the original, from the operator who takes it on. EUlabel doesn't link the two yet.

### Describe the model

Enter chemistry, rated performance, carbon footprint and compliance once, for the battery model.

### Register each battery

Add every serial number from your line, and it gets its own Digital Link: /01/{gtin}/21/{serial}.

### Keep it current

Report state of health and lifecycle events by API. Each status change is logged as a dated event.

### Which batteries need a passport?

LMT batteries, EV batteries and industrial batteries above 2 kWh placed on the market or put into service from 18 February 2027, under Article 77 of Regulation (EU) 2023/1542.

### Is the profile final?

It is built from the adopted regulation and the Commission data-point guide, and it is versioned. An implementing act on access rights is still expected, and the profile will follow it. EUlabel does not connect to the EU DPP Registry yet, so you would need to complete any registration separately.

### Who can read restricted fields?

Repairers, recyclers and second-life operators you grant access to, with a token you can revoke. The public page only reports how many fields are withheld.

### Do I need a serial number on every unit?

Yes, in practice. Article 77 requires a passport for each battery, with a unique identifier. On EUlabel that is the serial number: each unit resolves at its own Digital Link and inherits its model's data.

### Can state of health come from our battery management system?

Yes, through the API. Connect it to your own systems and report per serial number.

## Battery passports apply from 18 February 2027. Start with one model.

Early access is free. Describe a model, register a unit and see what is missing before the date arrives.
